About Us
Hello!
A Mile In Your Shoes (originally 'Victoria Plum Designs') was first established in 2006 by Victoria Cox.
Victoria's love of crafts began at a very young age, having been inspired by her Grandmother Bronnie who was always painting, sewing, and stuffing teddy bears! In fact, 'Big Ted', made by Bronnie, features in some product photos. See if you can spot him! Big Ted has been part of Victoria's journey for over 40 years and has also lived and travelled across the world.
After becoming self-employed in 2006, Victoria initially painted and engraved children's wooden stools and chairs using the art of Pyrography. She then expanded her product range to include other engraved wooden gifts.
In 2022 Victoria and her husband, Mark, joined forces and expanded their business with the investment of a professional laser engraver and cutter. This has helped to elevate the once-small craft business to the next level.
The name 'Mile In Your Shoes' reflects their range of quality bespoke gifts, tailor-made especially for travellers, explorers, adventurers, and go-getters!
All items are completed in Victoria and Mark's studio on the edge of the beautiful North Pennines mountain range, in Northern England.
Victoria and Mark like to add a personal touch to their product catalogue by using their own home and possessions as props for all of their photographs, rather than using stock photos. They often add a credit in the item description for each photograph, which explains what props are included, whether it's a vintage suitcase from their wedding, a flowering hydrangea gifted to Victoria by Auntie Margaret, or Juniper the cat who likes to get involved when the camera comes out!
Victoria and Mark live at home with their son Xander, and pets Rupert, Willow, Wilfred, Juniper, Cozmo & Enzo (who you may see in some product photos!).
Xander (10) is Chief Product Tester and is currently in training to further develop his role. If you've just placed an order, there’s a good chance he’ll cut your address label and fasten your box.
